Short Film Production in Melbourne

Narrative shorts, mini-documentaries and creative projects, shot on cinema-grade gear by a Melbourne crew that loves the craft.

Storytelling at Its Purest

Short film is where everything we do comes from. Before the brand campaigns, the event coverage and the social content, there’s the craft of telling a story with a camera. That’s the foundation we built FanCast on, and it’s the work that keeps us sharp.

We produce narrative short films, mini-documentaries, passion projects and creative collaborations. We bring the same production quality we deliver on commercial projects (cinema-grade cameras, professional audio, colour grading and sound design) but with the creative freedom that only independent filmmaking allows.

Melbourne is a filmmaker’s city. The laneways, the bayside light, the old industrial streets of the inner north and west, and a deep pool of actors, writers and crew make it easy to tell stories that feel grounded and real. An hour out, the Dandenongs, the Surf Coast and the goldfields towns add scale when a script needs it.

Whether you’re a writer with a script, a director looking for crew support, or a brand that wants to tell a story that goes deeper than a 30-second ad, we’re interested.

From Our Queenstown Studio: One In Ten and 48Hours

One In Ten is a short film shot against the breathtaking backdrop of Glenorchy, just outside Queenstown. We were part of the crew on this production, a project that reminded everyone involved why they got into filmmaking in the first place.

The shoot ran across multiple days with a full crew: cinematographer, sound recordist, lighting, art department, BTS team and cast. Written and directed by Sarah, the film brought together a tight unit of creatives who poured everything into bringing her vision to life. The performances from Kate and Jason had the crew in tears and fits of laughter within the same scene.

This is the kind of project we live for. No brief, no brand guidelines, no target demographic. Just a story that needed to be told and a crew committed to telling it right.

One In Ten is coming soon.

In 2026 our New Zealand team also entered the 48Hours film competition. Our film, Chrono-Narcos, made the National Shortlist: the final 25 out of more than 500 entries.

Full Production Support or Crew for Hire

We’re flexible in how we work on film projects. Depending on what you need, we can offer full production services where we handle everything from pre-production through to final delivery, or crew support where we slot into your existing production as camera operators, editors or BTS specialists.

We shoot on cinema-grade cameras with professional audio capture, lighting kits and CASA-compliant drone capability, and we record in 4K as standard.

We also have an experienced network of Melbourne creatives (cinematographers, sound recordists, editors, colourists and production assistants), so we can scale a crew to match the size of your project.

How We Work on Film Projects

1. Read the Script Everything starts with the story. We read your script or treatment, discuss your vision and work out how we can best support it, whether that’s full production or a specific crew role.

2. Pre-Production Location scouting, shot lists, crew assembly, scheduling and logistics. Melbourne weather can turn four times in a day, so every outdoor shoot has a contingency plan.

3. Production On set, we run a professional, collaborative operation. We respect the director’s vision, communicate clearly across departments and adapt to whatever the shoot throws at us.

4. Post-Production Editing, colour grading, sound design and final delivery. We can handle full post or deliver rushes for your own editor, whatever the project requires.
