Behind the Lens: Filming Callaway Golf’s Happy Gilmore 2 Netflix Launch

Dave Maguire

Some jobs you just can’t believe are real. Filming the Netflix launch of Happy Gilmore 2 for Callaway Golf was one of them.

We were lucky enough to be invited along to help capture this incredible event — and what an event it was. Callaway ambassadors, sports stars, impressive swings and the kind of energy that only comes when sport, comedy and genuine excitement collide.

Happy Gilmore and the Game of Golf

The original Happy Gilmore did something no golf movie had done before — it made the sport genuinely funny, wildly entertaining and accessible to an entirely new generation of fans. Decades later it’s still making an impact, and Happy Gilmore 2 on Netflix looks set to do the same all over again.

Being part of the launch — even behind the camera — felt like being part of something cultural. The kind of moment people will be talking about for a while.

What We Captured

Our role on the day was to film the action as it unfolded — Callaway ambassadors in full swing, sports stars showing off their form, and all the candid moments in between that make event content genuinely watchable.

The brief was to capture the energy and excitement of the launch in a way that felt authentic and alive. No stiff corporate shots. Just real moments from a genuinely brilliant day.

And yes — we did take a few swings ourselves. Happy Gilmore style, of course.

Why Sports Event Production Is What We Love

Events like this remind us why sports production is such a privilege. The action is real, the energy is electric and you never quite know what moment is coming next. Your job as a videographer is simply to be ready — and to make sure nothing great gets missed.

FanCast Productions has a background in sports media across AFL, cricket, soccer and now golf — and we bring that experience to every event shoot we take on.
